Electronics & Anything with a Plug

PAR-Recycle Works
home.par-recycleworks.org

Founded by people formerly incarcerated at Graterford, PAR offers employment and peer counseling to others recently released from prison. PAR is certified as an E-Steward, the gold standard for electronic recycling. They don’t export toxic stuff to other countries, send it to prison labor facilities, or incinerate. See website for everything they take.

Pick Up Available. Or Drop Off:

Metal & Batteries

PAR to the Rescue Again!

Any metal item big or small. And while Phila now takes alkaline batteries in trash collection because they’re made with less mercury than previously, they still contain mercury. Better to recycle!

Household Hazardous Waste Events

Residents of the following counties can attend any event.

Items include aerosol cans, cleansers, brake fluid, artist paints and more.

Registration required. For dates, items accepted, and to register:

Good Haul

Good Haul picks up anything, regardless of condition. All usable items go to nonprofit partners, furniture to housewares to appliances. Metal, technology, and other recyclables are recycled. Only absolutely unsalvageable items go to the dump.

Items can be picked up within 48 hours.

Pricing is $1.80/cubic square foot (minimum $99), less than for-profit companies. Revenue helps to fund Philadelphia Furniture Bank!

Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore

2318 Washington Ave.  Phila 19146      215-764-6000

Drop Off: Tue – Sat, 10 to 3.

Smaller Items

Most thrift shops put items that are stained/torn/don’t sell in a dumpster.

These two are different! A salvage company picks up any item made of fabric – clothes, curtains, belts, shoes, handbags, linens, rugs – pays the shop by weight, and resells these to recyclers. They also have “Free”  boxes for certain items, rare among thrift stores.
